Janet de Wagt is an award winning New Zealand born artist based in Dunedin, who has lived, painted and exhibited throughout the world.  Her paintings reflect the landscape at the "bottom of the world".  She paints on site, in all weathers, rain, hail or shine, capturing the mood and emotion in the southernmost depths of New Zealand.

"I stand in the place to paint the land, the fauna and flora, the sea and the sky where others before me have settled, lived their lives and left their stories."

She has spent 2 decades painting around Murihiku / Southland and the coastline still draws her – the moving sea, the dancing light, the fast weather changes. She has had to be able to work fast to capture the moment, tie canvases to the truck, drag out her ironing board as her easel and wear her cowgirl hat low braced against the elements and anticipate that coffee later.

Language spoken: English.
