Day 1 - San José

Meet at the airport in the Arrival hall. Look for PONANT sign. You will be greeted by our local English-speaking representative off the flight selected by PONANT or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).

You will then be transferred by coach to the Gran Hotel Costa Rica 4*.

Check-in.

Dinner and rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 - San José/Puntarenas

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.

Following your city adventure step into the exquisite world of the National Theatre, a cultural gem that reflects the grandeur of Costa Rica's artistic heritage. Your journey will continue at the Museo de Oro, where pre-Columbian treasures unveil the rich history of the region. Engage in a fascinating exploration of golden artifacts and learn about the indigenous cultures that once thrived in Costa Rica. The museum provides a captivating glimpse into the intricate craftsmanship and symbolic meaning behind these ancient treasures.

Later, indulge your senses with a delightful chocolate tasting in an artisanal chocolateria, nestled in the heart of San Jose. This chocolate factory encompasses a rich tapestry of experiences, inviting you to explore the captivating world of chocolate. You'll have the unique opportunity to delve into the intricate process of chocolate-making at an artisanal chocolate factory. Delectable in an apt characterization of this experience, immersing you in the aroma and flavours of artisanal chocolate crafted directly on site, using seeds sourced directly from Costa Rican farmers.

Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.

You will then depart for Puntarenas (approximately a 2-hour drive) to embark on board your ship.

Enjoy the charm of this 1930’s building, a historical-architectural monument of Costa Rica, that offers contemporary urban interiors and 79 sophisticated and spacious rooms. You could workout at the fitness center, enjoy music at the piano bar or grab a bite at the Cultura 5 restaurant, which serves international cuisine. The pleasant staff will help you live like a local with good recommendations of cafés and shops.

·        This programme is suitable for people with reduced mobility, upon request.

- A minimum number of participants is required for this trip to proceed. As a result, both the price and itinerary may be adjusted based on the final number of participants. Should the minimum number not be met, we will offer you an alternative arrangement.

- The tourist police are very present in San José in order to prevent any incidents, so it is common for officers to assist foreign tourists and give them a safety briefing.

Day 2 - San José/La Fortuna

After a 1-hour transfer, you will begin your day of visit with an enriching experience in a coffee plantation. You will dive into an insightful journey through the coffee-making process, gaining firsthand knowledge from passionate experts. Delight in a guided tour through the verdant coffee plantations and witness the meticulous care that goes into cultivating the finest beans. Discover the artistry behind each cup as you engage in a hands-on experience, from harvesting to the final, aromatic brew.

Following the tour, savour a typical Costa Rican lunch at a local restaurant. Indulge in local flavours, experiencing the country's gastronomic heritage firsthand.

Later, step into the captivating world of a local crafts factory in Sarchí, renowned for its heritage as an artisan town in Costa Rica. Prepare to be enchanted by an authentic and immersive experience, where tradition comes to life.
Your visit unfolds within the rich ambiance of the workshop, where the skilled craftsmen meticulously craft traditional ox carts, known as carretas. Marvel at the artistry and precision involved in each step of this time-honoured process, preserving a cultural legacy that spans generations. As you explore the grounds, breathe in the fresh air and appreciate the connection between craftsmanship and the natural beauty that inspires it.

You will then depart to your next destination, La Fortuna. The charming town of La Fortuna lies at the foot of the active, perfectly iconical Arenal Volcano, near Lake Arenal.

Check-in in your room at the Tabacon Resort & Spa 5* and time at leisure. Finish off your day with a relaxing soak in one of the hot springs, your favorite cocktail in hand.

Day 3 - La Fortuna

After breakfast, you will embark on an invigorating adventure with the Arenal 1968, situated amidst the awe-inspiring landscapes of Arenal in Costa Rica. Immerse yourself in the natural wonders that surround the estate and offer a captivating blend of scenic beauty and outdoor exploration.

Your day begins with a thrilling hike along the well-maintained trails, leading you to the Mirador (viewpoint) that unveils panoramic vistas of the iconic Arenal Volcano. Although the volcano has been almost inactive since 2010, it is still the highlight of the region, especially on sunny days when you can see the giant in all its amazing splendor. Traverse through lush rainforests, where the vibrant flora and fauna create a mesmerizing backdrop to your journey. The trail is designed to cater to various fitness levels, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all.

A carefully curated picnic-style lunch awaits you surrounded by the sounds of nature and the fresh mountain air at this scenic place. Indulge in a delectable meal amidst the natural beauty, creating a perfect balance between adventure and relaxation.

You will then be transferred to your hotel to enjoy some free time and to relax in its hot springs.

You will be transported to a charming local ranch for an unforgettable evening that immerses you in the heart of Costa Rican culture. Set in a rustic open-air setting, this experience blends traditional cuisine, indigenous heritage, and warm hospitality. You will enjoy a cultural presentation by the Maleku people, one of Costa Rica’s last remaining indigenous tribes, through storytelling and ceremonial performance. Then, you will taste chicha, a fermented beverage deeply rooted in Maleku culture, followed by hands-on culinary activities that connect you with local life. Under the guidance of Costa Rican hosts, you will prepare handmade tortillas and help cook picadillo, a beloved national dish made from fresh local ingredients. You will then enjoy a full Costa Rican-style dinner including a fruit juice, a local beer and a freshly brewed chorreado coffee.

Day 4 - La Fortuna/Puntarenas

Please note:

·        It is imperative that the details of your arrival flight are provided to your travel agent, no later than 30 days before the start date of your cruise, to secure the proper private transfer.

·        Bring walking shoes, comfortable clothing and mosquito repellent.

·        If the Ox cart factory's visit falls on a Saturday, the activity will take place as planned but the artisans will no be working at the factory since it is their day off.

·        There is a free access to the Tabacon Hotel's hot springs. It is opened from 8 AM to 10 PM. 

- If more than 10 rooms are reserved for your group at the Tabacon Hotel, you will receive a $50 voucher to use at the hotel restaurant or outdoor bar. If you exceed this $50 value, the additional charges must be paid directly upon departure.
